Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council(TIFAC) is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi established in February 1988. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and Secretary Department of Defence Research & Development, New Delhi, is the present Chairman of TIFAC Governing Council.

TIFAC aims to keep a technology watch on global trends and formulating preferred technology options for India. TIFAC’s strengths lies in meaningfully networking a large pool of experienced professionals from Industry, R&D and Universities to carry out its activities.

TIFAC has the following objectives:

  • Undertake technology assessment and forecasting studies in selected areas of national economy.
  • Watch global trends and formulation of preferred options for India.
  • Establish a nationally accessible technology information system, and
  • Promotion of key technologies
